So I turned to my personal island of musical peace, the resonant chords of the Prophet 6, carrying a slow tempo techno track in there amongst all my favourite clicky detailings and micro-jams. It’s a rendering of my safe space to get lost in and have some time away from the real world. Which is where the quote took me. Xavier took the same approach with natural form as our place of peace in amongst the chaos. Xavier Chassaing This music video is part of a neo-psychedelic tradition and was conceived as a live choreography between plants and projected light, inspired by Max Cooper's 'Peace Exists Here'. The entire video was captured in-camera: no AI, no CGI, and no post-production visual effects were used. The visual language is built from just three elemental components - small plants, smoke/fog, and projected video sequences - combined in real time. Projections were mapped directly onto the plants and through the fog, creating volumetric rays of light that evolved organically with the movement of smoke. What appears on screen is exactly what was happening in front of the lens. Projection mapping is often used on a large scale; I took another direction by working small to create a macro-photographic universe not often associated with projection mapping. I’ve often felt frustrated seeing projection mapping on a single element in a forest, wishing the entire forest could be covered yet knowing it is almost impossible. By using a smaller scale instead, we completely enter the projection. The entire setup was shot in macro at 1:1 magnification, meaning the frame at the point of focus never exceeded 3-4 cm. This extreme closeness transforms subtle shifts in light, color, and texture into immersive landscapes.
