It’s time for a birthday cocktail! Both me and our director, Robi, have a birthday on the release day of this episode so a Cocktail Time challenge is in order! I came up with what I think is a perfect cocktail recipe for Robi, and he created a cocktail which I made on today’s episode. But Robi made sure we didn’t only give each other the gift of cocktails with a nice surprise at the end of the video, so make sure to stick around for that! This was so much fun to shoot and I’ll remember this birthday cocktail episode forever! Oh and I almost forgot that our DOP, Sašo, picked his favourite cocktail of the day. Which one do you think it was? 0:00 intro 2:04 Robi’s Old...Fashioned cocktail 4:45 tasting notes 5:28 Ginger Love cocktail 8:57 tasting notes 9:30 surprise by Robi! 10:20 Sašo judging cocktails 10:55 bloopers Robi’s Old...Fashioned: • 60ml (2 oz) Woodford Reserve Rye • 7,5 ml (¼ oz) Medium dry Oloroso Sherry • 1 bar spoon maple syrup • 4 dashes cherry bitters • 1 dash allspice bitters Combine all the ingredients in the mixing glass, stir with ice and serve over a big ice cube. Garnish with a flamed orange zest. Ginger Love: • 50 ml (1 2/3 oz) Jägermeister Scharf • 15 ml (1/2 oz) Jack Daniel's No7 • 30 ml (1 oz) lemon juice • 22,5 ml (¾ oz) rich ginger syrup • 1 egg white • 8 -10 mint leaves • 1 drop 20% saline solution Combine all ingredients in a shaker, add ice and shake well. Discard the ice and shake well again. Double strain in coupe glass and garnish with some candied ginger and mint leaves. Rich ginger syrup and candied ginger, by Robi: I placed 100 grams of sliced ginger in a pot with 100 g of water and 200 g of demerara sugar. The pot had markings on the inside so I noted where the mixture level was. Then I added an additional 150 g of water and slowly cooked the mixture down to the original level to get back to a rich 2:1 syrup, infused with a strong ginger kick. Leave covered in a pot for another hour, then strain and bottle. Place the ginger slices in a food dehydrator or an oven to dehydrate before covering with powdered sugar to get candied ginger.
